On May 16th 2022 Prof. emerita Anna Wirz-Justice won the prestigious The Daylight Award 2022 for her outstanding research on the effects of (day-)light on circadian rhythms and mood. We warmly gratulate our former Head of the Centre for Chronobiology to this major achievement!

We are very excited to share a new Outlook article published in Nature, "Can resetting the body clock help with depression?", which explores the link between circadian and mental health, and includes quotes by past and present Centre for Chronobiology researchers including Christian Cajochen and Manuel Spitschan, as well as citing Corrado Garbazza and his team's recent publication Sustained remission from perinatal depression after bright light therapy: A pilot randomised, placebo-controlled trial.

Travel Award

Science communication award

At the "Psychologie & Gehirn", the annual meeting of the German Psychological Society (DGPs) Section Biological & Neuropsychology, Christine Blume received the award for science communcation. Here, you find an overview of her outreach activities in the field of sleep and chronobiology.

From dawn to dusk

How does light influence the circadian clock, sleep and health? On 20 and 21 May 2022 we will accompany the day with lectures and light measurements at the St. Margarethen Observatory in Basel.

LIGHTCAP seasonal school

Christian-Doppler Prize 2021

On 10 December 2021, Dr Christine Blume from the Centre for Chronobiology and Monika Angerer (University of Salzburg) received the Christian Doppler Prize of the State of Salzburg (Austria) for their joint work on circadian rhythms in severely brain-injured patients.

Integrative Human Circadian Daylight Platform

We are very excited to announce that we launched our new Integrative Human Circadian Daylight Platform (IHCDP) on September 1st, 2021. The interdisciplinary platform will integrate and comprehensively fuse basic, applied and clinical aspects of human circadian daylight research to improve circadian health, quality of life and well-being across the lifespan. The IHCDP platform is financially supported by the Velux Foundation Switzerland (https://veluxstiftung.ch/) for 4 years.

SNSF Postdoc.Mobility Fellowship

Delightfully, Dr. Yu-Shiuan Lin is awarded 2-year SNSF Posdoc.Mobility Fellowship (from April 2022 on) to conduct a PET-MRI project examining the interaction between adenosine and dopamine systems at Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging, Massachusetts General Hospital, USA. This is a continuing chapter from her previous PET-MRI training in the SNSF Doc.Mobility Fellowship.
