Study Participation

For ongoing studies at the Centre for Chronobiology, we are currently looking for participants with the following characteristics:

Teenagers (14-17 years old):

CaReTeens Study (detailed information and or registration here, in German)

The effects of caffeine in sleep-restricted teenagers on sleep, reward processing, risk-taking, and underlying cerebral mechanisms.
Who: Healthy teenagers between 14 and 17 years of age with a solid understanding of German who can easily abstain a week from caffeine.
How long: The study lasts twice for one week each and consists of a total of 3 nights spent in our lab and 2 sessions in the hospital for an MRI.
Compensation: CHF 220 fixed + approx. CHF 120 earned in addition.

TeenLight Study (detailed information here, in German)

Effect of afternoon- & evening light on melatonin, sleepiness & sleep in adolescents
Who: Healthy teenagers between 14 and 17 years of age
How long: Over a period of 3 weeks, 3 experiment sessions of ~18 h each (incl. sleep)
Compensation: For full participation CHF 550 (bank transfer / Pro-Innerstadt vouchers)

Young adults (18-35 years old):

Cone Study (detailed information here; for participants with colour blindness here)

Contribution of eye receptors to melatonin production & sleepiness
Who: Healthy adults between 18 and 35 years of age (detailed information here)
Healthy adults between 18 and 35 years of age with Red-Green colour blindness (detailed information here)
How long: Over a period of 3 weeks, 3 experiment sessions of ~9 h each.
Compensation: For full participation CHF 500 (bank transfer)

“PuCa” study (detailed information here)

Contribution of caffeine and light on pupil regulation
Who: Healthy adults between 18 and 35 years of age (detailed information here)
How long: Over a period of 4 weeks, 4 experimental sessions of ~6 h each.
Compensation: For full participation CHF 600 (bank transfer)

Senior adults (65 years and older):

CIEL Study (detailed information here, in German)

Circadian intervention study for elderly with sleep problems (detailed information here, in German)
Who: Senior adults (at least 65 years old) with sleep problems
How long: 12 months
Compensation: For full participation CHF 1000.- (bank transfer)
