Study Participation: Does caffeine influence learning process?

Looking for participant: we aim to examine whether taking caffeine acutely and daily can influence reward learning processes compared to placebo.

Investigator: Dr. Yu-Shiuan Lin, Eliane Pflugi, & Jana Kopp.

Inclusion criteria:

  • ≥ 18 und ≤ 40 years old.
  • Generally healthy
  • Habitual caffeine consumers (e.g., coffee, tea, cola, energy drink etc.)

Study Goals:

In this project, we aim to examine whether taking caffeine acutely (200 & 100 mg mannitol x 6 day + 200 & 100mg caffeine x 1 day) and daily (200 & 100 mg caffeine x 7 days) can influence reward learning processes compared to placebo (200 & 100 mg x 7 days).

Procedure and duration: 3 sessions (in total 21 days)/ per person

DAY1 – 6 at home:

  • Taking capsules
  • Entering sleep diary
  • Saliva samples

DAY7 three hours in the lab:

  • A reward-learning game.
  • A motor inhibition task.
  • Mood questionnaire.
  • Saliva samples and blood pressure.

Remuneration: From the reward learning game, you can earn up to CHF100 in each session (in total CHF300 max.)

All data will be treated confidentially. There is no medical benefit for the test subjects.

Please note that your data will be registered when you contact Dr. Lin. If you are not interested in participating in the study, your data will be deleted immediately.

    Hope this finds you well. I came across this study and very interested, since I’m a coffee lover (2 cups per day). Could you let me know more about the details of the study? I speak English and my first language is mandarin Chinese in case this matters. Thank you very much.
